I am incredibly excited to announce that I have been nominated as a Finalist in the Westfield Southland Local Heroes Award for 2023!
Westfield Local Heroes is a recognition and awards program that shines a spotlight on individuals in Australia and New Zealand who make a positive impact to their local community or environment.
I am honoured to have been nominated and selected as a finalist for this award. It is a great feeling to be recognised by the local community for the work we do in the conservation and protection of our local marine environments. At the Marine Mammal Foundation, I have had the pleasure of leading and guiding our community and school-based education programs, which have engaged over 50,000 people. It is so rewarding to share our passion for conservation with those who love where we live, and demonstrate how we can all make a difference in the conservation of the Burrunan dolphin, marine mammals, and our local marine environments.
Excitingly, the Westfield Local Heroes are nominated and voted for by their communities. The finalist with the most community votes will become the Westfield Southland Local Hero for 2023, receiving a $20,000 grant for the organisation they represent. If I am voted the winner of this award, MMF will use the grant funding to expand the delivery of our Marine Litter Project in community groups and schools in our local community, directly combating local litter and preventing it from entering marine environments by inspiring and empowering the next generation to make a positive difference.
