Our Mission
Conduct Applied Research
Working with Australian and International scientists and researchers, to establish and advance the knowledge, conservation, and protection of Australia’s marine mammals.
Raise Awareness
To raise community and stakeholder knowledge of marine conservation issues and empower change through greater awareness and action opportunities.
Apply Findings
To apply the findings and learnings from our research to achieve informed and effective conservation outcomes.
Provide Education
To encourage and support the next generation, from early learners through to tertiary students, to ensure that what we do today, creates a better tomorrow.

+ Applied Research
Conducting applied research, and working with Australian and International scientists and researchers to establish and advance the knowledge, conservation and protection of Australia’s marine mammals.
AIMS
- To conduct applied marine mammal research for the greater conservation and protection of marine mammals;
- To be at the leading edge of marine mammal scientific endeavours;
- To provide support for affiliated research projects;
- To publish, present and communicate results in national and international peer reviewed publications and conferences, and to share research programs and outcomes with the broader community; and
- To respond to marine mammal stranding events and provide scientific input and recovery assistance for various stakeholders.
+ Conservation Endeavours
Applying the findings and learnings from the research to achieve informed and effective conservation outcomes
AIMS
- To communicate research and conservation programs to the broader community, including private and government sectors in order to raise awareness and involvement in conservation;
- To use information from the Foundation’s applied research programs for the greater conservation and protection of marine mammals; and
- To align with other conservation organisations for a united conservation voice.
+ Community Engagement
Raising community and stakeholder awareness of marine conservation issues and empower change through greater awareness and action opportunities.
AIMS
- To support community & stakeholder engagement, informing a transparent science-based conservation effort;
- To present community awareness presentations;
- To give opportunities for community involvement via the volunteering and other citizen science initiatives.
+ Next Generation Education
Encouraging and supporting the next generation, from early learners through to tertiary and higher degree research students.
AIMS
- To deliver curriculum-based primary and secondary schools programs;
- To engage primary and secondary schools in inspiring environment and conservation based programs;
- To provide support and opportunities for youth (10yo-18yo) with a passion for marine conservation and research;
- To encourage and support emerging marine mammal undergraduate scientists financially and through training; and
- To provide opportunities for higher degree learning in Honours and PhD projects.
